Spirituality has to come naturally

For most of my life even the word spirituality made me cringe. My mother in a sense chose religion over her family. She put her whole self into the church and God, which was her way of dealing with her own pain, but she was never home or mentally present for my upbringing. When she was around, she had a stone-cold persona and religion was shoved down our throats so harshly that it just made me sick. I swore that I would never have any type of spirituality in my life, so when I began to hear the word God at meetings, I wanted to jump out of my seat and throw my AA chair!
