Coming to AA after four “dry” years not drinking, she discovered the joy of fellowship

When I stopped drinking, all I really knew about alcoholism was that I was an alcoholic. I knew that because the 20 Questions said so, even in my 20s. Of course, in the early days it was okay because I was having fun. However, over the years, the fun went away and all I was left with was the need to drink. The only time I wasn’t drunk was when I was working, and I knew the only reason I was working was to avoid drinking myself to death. I had reached the point where, when I was drunk, all I wanted was to be sober; when I was sober, I needed to be drunk.
