The Steps Led Me To My Higher Power

An old painting in a thrift store carried an unmistakable message from her Higher Power

I was mandated by the court system to go to AA meetings for a year. I was also told that I could not drink alcohol if I wanted to have a relationship with my children. I could not imagine living without alcohol or without my children, so I went, but I resented the meetings and could not wait for the day when I did not have to listen to people talk about how they stayed sober through a twelve-step program. I cried in every meeting and could not believe how freely people shared their problems about alcohol and how open they were about how horrible their lives were before they found AA and got sober.
