It took a while, but she finally found a way to make an amend for a life-changing event years ago

In 1988 I was at the end of my rope. I had been trying to get sober for seven years with little success. Additionally, I was mentally ill and had been to approximately 20 psychiatric hospitalizations, many involuntarily. I felt I needed treatment for my alcoholism to better manage my psychiatric problems, so I asked my therapist to refer me to an alcohol treatment program. He felt I was not addressing my psychiatric issues and was using alcohol treatment to avoid my primary issues and thus refused to refer me.
