Mysterious Traveler

We never know when we stop to help someone if this will be their lucky day

She crumpled in front of me like a puppet with severed strings. I was just a mile from my house, driving my kids to swimming lessons. We were on a two-lane street that separated an open field from a residential neighborhood. The woman was now sitting in knee-high weeds. There was no sidewalk, no shoulder, not even a curb, so I stopped in the middle of the road and rolled down my front passenger window.
