Maybe God does look after drunks like me, he thought.
Who knew it would be the guy who sat in the back, dressed like a tramp?

New to AA, I had just moved into a tiny apartment in the heart of the city. I got a little job working for a neighborhood agency. They said I could make my own hours. That was good, because some days I had trouble getting out of bed. All the feelings I had pushed down for years were coming to the surface. I was swamped with guilt and self-loathing. I didn’t like myself and thought nobody else could like me either.
