Getting sober required a commitment. He found the right one early on Wednesday mornings

I was introduced to the rooms of AA in 1997 when I got my first (and only) DUI. I was on a court slip and went to meetings only to get my slip signed. I didn’t feel like I belonged, and I didn’t think I was an alcoholic. I sat in the back of the room and didn’t interact with anyone. I got to the meetings when they started and left right when they ended after the Lord’s Prayer. I did my time (six months) and was happy to be done with that part of my life.
