In January 2004, when I first got to AA, I was so worried that I was never going to have fun again. Fortunately, my fear proved to be unwarranted. I have since acquired plenty of evidence that we aren’t “a glum lot” in AA. Initially, nightly dinners after meetings provided me the opportunity to get to know the lighter side of some of my newfound friends. I later discovered how much fun it was taking road trips with these friends to area service assemblies, state AA conventions, Founder’s Day events, workshops, speaking engagements and even international conventions like the one I got to attend in Atlanta in 2015.
