Knowing When To Quit

After an accident on a Rocky Mountain hike, a member learns the hard way to ask for help

In 2014 I broke my shoulder while hiking in the Rocky Mountains. I was in shock and in pain. My guide assumed the injury was simply a bruise, so I continued hiking to the top, which we were near. I fell twice on the way up, because I was so shaky. Once I made it, I asked someone to prepare my lunch because I was in so much pain. I managed to hike back down to the bottom. The guide continued to tell the group that my shoulder probably wasn’t broken. Frankly, I had no idea because I had never broken a bone before.
