He was once a professional friend, always expecting something in return. Tradition Eight helped change all that

As a drunk, I always thought of myself as being a good friend, always willing to be there whenever someone needed help. If someone were moving to a new house, I would be there for them—as long as the beer lasted. If a friend needed to replace the roof on their house or had some other building project, I was there—as long as the beer lasted. If someone needed to talk, I was a good listener—as long as they were buying the drinks.
