Carrying the Message in China

An expat describes the world of AA in China

My name is Paul S and I'm a very grateful recovered alcoholic and a proud and privileged member of Alcoholics Anonymous. I live in China. My homegroup is The Globalspeakers Online Group. I got sober in Cornwall, UK. Being sober allowed me the opportunity to go to university and I ended up becoming a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher and moving to China in November 2006. I never envisioned I would still be here nearly 20 years later. I am still an active member of AA, though the way I practice my recovery journey is the same in principle, but different in action, from when I lived in the UK. There is still the same message being carried in China, either to the Chinese members or expats. Alcoholics are the same the world separated only by the thin veneer of culture.
