This day’s challenge was a remote community of one. No one should have to celebrate alone
A few years ago on New Year’s Eve, a member of our Fellowship—sober 23 years—was stuck on an island. Not metaphorically, not emotionally. Literally, stuck. Just outside of our local area, completely waterlocked, with no way to get to the mainland because the ferry doesn’t run in the winter and Lake Simcoe hadn’t frozen over. And it was his anniversary. Twenty-three years sober and he couldn’t be at his own birthday meeting.
