Amazing Grace

On her 25th anniversary, a return to her very first meeting gave her a cherished moment she’ll never forget

I got sober in a small town in New York. The town was in between the tony cities of Greenwich, Connecticut and Rye, New York. It was a place where the people who weren’t rich could afford to live. I had an apartment there for five years. It was my sanctuary, where I would crawl home drunk at dawn knowing there were people somewhere having pancakes and a life that I hoped to map my way back to.
